Gospel for today July 24, 2011

Matthew 13: 44 - 52

44 "The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up; then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.

45 "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls,

46 who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it.

47 "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net which was thrown into the sea and gathered fish of every kind;

48 when it was full, men drew it ashore and sat down and sorted the good into vessels but threw away the bad.

49 So it will be at the close of the age. The angels will come out and separate the evil from the righteous,

50 and throw them into the furnace of fire; there men will weep and gnash their teeth.

51 "Have you understood all this?" They said to him, "Yes."

52 And he said to them, "Therefore every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old."

My gospel reflection:

The gospel for today talks again about the Kingdom of God. It was compared to a treasure, a pearl and a net. We all value our treasures, and when it comes to the treasures in our life, we definitely would do our best to keep it.  God said that the Kingdom of heaven is like a treasure, if we find that treasure in our life, we are ought to keep it and treasure it for the rest of our lives. Whenever we found some treasure, it always brings us happiness, but for the worldly treasure it can only bring us temporary happiness. With the kingdom of God, it can give us everlasting happiness. The gospel for today reminds us that the most important treasure that we must keep in the kingdom of God. We must not attach ourselves too much in worldly treasures.

This Sunday gospel also reminds us to do good for at the end of the age, we will be judge for the things that we have done here on earth. If we have expressed our lived to God as often as possible, definitely we will be with the angels in heaven. But, for those who doesn’t the will of the devil, will be thrown away. The Sunday gospel tells us to find the kingdom of God here on earth and we shall be able to find it if we do His will.

Gospel for tomorrow: Matthew 20:20-28
